The network's Top Fresh Series of 2025 Earns a Substantial Extension for Two More Seasons.

Last October, Adult Swim saw the return of its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. But, later that same month, the network introduced a brand-new animated series with a distinctly unique feel. Haha, You Clowns proved to be sweet and soothing, in the spirit of a animated take of a contemplative talk show. At a time often defined by bleakness, this show's sincerity found an audience and turned it into a surprise hit.

A Significant Investment

In mid-December, Adult Swim revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for two more seasons. This provides showrunner Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to develop the story of the Campbell family. The series centers on three polite teenage brothers whose central trait is their strong bond for their single father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four main characters.

"My deepest thanks go to the viewers of the show who took a chance on the show and spread the word," stated Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."

Network Praise

In the same announcement laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and uniquely eerie." He thanked the fans who embraced the show and supported its peculiarly charming sensibility.

"All of you got behind this new show, rooted for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Different Kind of Comedy

Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a wholesome alternative" to other adult animated fare. Viewers found something deeply soothing about observing this charming family navigate their everyday routines.

At the time, creator Joe Cappa expressed his hope to move the comedy genre beyond its prevailing cynical streak. He linked this trend to a broader media landscape.

“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we are trapped in,” said Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we just have to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”

What Comes Next

Now, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa may well be part of that change he described. At a minimum, the renewal guarantees audiences additional episodes to experience the gentle humor of the endearing Campbell clan.

The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. The entire series is ready to watch on HBO Max.
