The Merseyside club Vows Not to Abandon Offensive Approach Despite Recent Slump, Insists Slot

Arne Slot has revealed that the team leadership agree with his assessment regarding the recent downturn and he will not abandon their forward-thinking philosophy in quest for a solution. The tactician admitted that six losses in seven matches was not good enough ahead of the weekend fixture with Villa.

Growing Expectations During Tough Spell

Liverpool's coach recognized the pressure was on before his altered lineup were eliminated from the Carabao Cup against Crystal Palace. However, he insisted that this pressure to arrest the slide is not coming from the club's ownership or management structure following a summer transfer outlay of almost £450m.

"Our views align," commented Slot, whose side will meet Los Blancos in the continental tournament and visit Manchester City in the Premier League.

Squad Quality Stays Unchallenged

The coach is convinced his team "have an unbelievable squad if they are completely available and completely set for the schedule ahead". He mentioned that the summer investment in talents including the attacking midfielder and the Swedish striker, who is expected to be sidelined again against Villa through injury, had left the club "in an excellent position for the near future and the years to come".

Integration Challenges

When asked why his team were having difficulty blending, he replied: "You don't really help me. 'What are the reasons?' I offer insights and people say I'm coming up with excuses. I can list several explanations why we are not winning as much or suffering defeats as we do but, as I consistently state, there are insufficient justifications to have a run of form as we had now."

  • Even if I could list numerous reasons
  • As Liverpool manager you should not suffer defeats
  • In truth six out of seven

Defensive Numbers

Only Burnley (21) have conceded more clear opportunities from regular play this season than Liverpool (19). The table-toppers, Arsenal, have allowed just two. Yet Liverpool's coach rejects the champions have been too open and claims there is no reason to sacrifice his attacking principles for a more pragmatic style after ten fixtures without a shutout.

"In my view we're not conceding a lot of chances so I see no justification to alter our approach completely but we need to do better in not conceding goals," he declared.

Particular Cases

"Versus the Red Devils, how many opportunities did we allow? Against Eintracht Frankfurt when we were 3-1 up, we hardly conceded a shot on target. In all the games we have competed in we haven't given up a many opportunities. Not at all. We do allow a somewhat more than the previous campaign but that has to do with us being behind early so you become more adventurous. But typically I don't believe that our issue is that we concede too many chances. Our problem is we don't score the openings we produce."
