The 'Breaking Bad' Creator Discloses He Has an Idea of How Pluribus Will Conclude... For Now.

The creative mastermind never anticipated that his new science-fiction series would turn into a massive hit. “I am so grateful to the audience,” Gilligan says. “I did not foresee the show being as passionately debated as it is, and it makes me overjoyed.”

With the first season of the acclaimed series wrapping up—and a second season already in development—the writers' room recently discussed the viewer reception and whether it will shape the storyline of Pluribus.

About the Tremendous Viewer Reception

It would be easy to get distracted by the widespread acclaim and fan theories about Pluribus. Gilligan, however, is making a conscious effort to ignore the noise.

“It's like being an endless supply of something incredibly sweet and being in a state of bliss,” he says. “It's amazing, but I learn of it through word of mouth, and that's intentional. Not once have I Googled myself, nor do I ever plan to. It's quite the opposite. It's a bottomless pit I know I would get lost in and then I'd be living in squalor from Home Depot and I'd rarely emerge from my living room.”

Regardless of trying to stay away, there’s it's impossible to ignore the overwhelmingly positive response to the series. The only approach for the writers is to acknowledge it humbly and try not to let it alter the course of the show.

“We don't try to change the plot,” says Alison Tatlock. “The plot we develop is not changed by online forums.”

“It's wiser to keep our focus on the work,” he chimes in.

A Pressing Query: Does the showrunner Know the Finale of Pluribus?

So if the creative staff are not listening by public opinion, does it imply they have mapped out how Pluribus will ultimately end? Essentially yes… with some caveats.

“There are some interesting ideas about the ultimate destination,” he states. “however, we remain prepared to discard a good idea for a more brilliant plan. This approach has served us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We scrap ideas when we conceive of something superior and I expect we'll continue doing that.”

Alternatively, if they hit a wall, executive producer Gordon Smith has a humorous idea to serve as a last resort.

“I keep pitching that everything takes place within a snow globe, and that we'll zoom out in the finale and that's where they've been all along,” Smith jokes, “but no one is buying it.”

Of course, why not reference the legendary finales?

“I want Carol to awaken beside Bob Newhart,” Gilligan adds, smiling.

Pluribus is currently available on the streaming service.
