Homages Pour In for Rob and Michele Reiner as Medical Examiner's Findings Face a Security Hold.
Over a fortnight after the tragic deaths of renowned filmmaker Rob Reiner and his partner, photographer Michele Reiner, peers and loved ones continue to honor the couple.
Quoting a Classic: Cary Elwes Pays Tribute to His Director
Writing on social media, actor Cary Elwes, who rose to fame in Reiner's 1987 classic *The Princess Bride*, stated he only now felt prepared to express about his profound loss.
"Enough time has gone by that I can finally put my grief into words," shared Elwes, noting that his first meeting with Reiner created an instant bond. "Once we started spending more time together I understood this was someone I longed to have in my life."
The actor shared never-before-seen clips from the film, remarking that he doesn't recollect "one day without laughter".
"The film is about affection, allegiance and giving. Values that Rob held dear. This is one of the many reasons he was the best person to direct it," Elwes wrote.
He additionally honored Michele Reiner, saying: "Claiming that they were a formidable pair would be an understatement. My heart still hurts every time I recall you." He concluded with a line from *The Princess Bride*: "Sure, death cannot stop true love but existence is agony without you."
Martin Scorsese Remembers a Fellow Artist
In a different piece, revered director Martin Scorsese paid homage to Reiner, whom he originally knew in the 1970s.
"Immediately, I loved hanging out with Rob. We had a instant connection for each other. He was uproarious and sometimes sharply witty, but he was never the kind of guy who would command the room," Scorsese shared.
Scorsese pointed out Reiner's supporting role in his 2013 film *The Wolf of Wall Street*, playing the father of the lead role.
"His improvisation skills with the best. He was a virtuoso at comedy, he worked beautifully with the cast, and he comprehended the human predicament of his character," Scorsese added.
Court Proceedings: Autopsy Reports Restricted
Recently, a Los Angeles superior court judge ruled to bar the disclosure of the Reiners' post-mortem findings, at the request from the local authorities.
A legal directive issued a security hold on the cases to limit the public release of "any investigative information, notes, reports or photos" pertaining to the probe.
The Medical Examiner's office had previously confirmed their deaths were the consequence of homicide, with a record noting the cause as "injuries from a sharp object".
Response and Criticism
In the wake of the killings, public personalities expressed varying reactions.
Ex-President Donald Trump posted on the matter, making divisive statements that were met with immediate backlash by many commentators.
Podcaster Joe Rogan added his criticism to the detractors last week. Conversing on his podcast, Rogan labeled the comments as "shocking" and suggested they showed a worrisome deficiency of sympathy.
Rogan ended by remarking that an associate should have acted when the choice to comment on the tragedy was made.
