This wasn't always true, though Avatar: The Last Airbender demonstrated this via "The Ember Island Players," a beloved segment during its concluding run now being granted a dedicated Magic: The Gathering Secret Lair drop.

The complete Secret Lair superdrop for the forthcoming Avatar: The Last Airbender set was unveiled recently. This includes five Secret Lairs, and while one titled "My Cabbages!" is certainly amusing nod to the series' best background character, the remaining sets seem somewhat less imaginative, except for one standout: "The Ember Island Players."
Based on episode 17 in the final season of the beloved series, this Secret Lair features these specific cards:
- 1x Phantasmal Image portrayed as "Absolutely Accurate Actor"
- 1x Braid of Fire
- 1x Cursed Mirror
- 1x Mask of Memory
- 1x Thespian's Stage
Why this segment stands out
Fans of the show clearly recall this particular episode, which acted as a recap of Aang and his companions' quest before the series' finale. Different from standard summary installments, or retrospective segments, "The Ember Island Players" did not stem from financial limitations or creative challenges. The show's makers specifically aimed to offer viewers a chance to reflect on the overall plot, but they decided to approach it inventively.
During the installment, the main characters observe a theatrical performance depicting their adventures on a stage set on Ember Island, named The Boy in the Iceberg. The entire performance is wildly exaggerated, melodramatic, and utterly comical. It succeeds because it plays on the characters' views regarding their own identities, contrasting them against how the world (and notably the Fire Nation) views them. It has the right amount of introspective humor, and it ends up possibly the top rendition of the show available to date.
